I mean nowadays there's just too much garbage released among games, looks like they forgot how to create real good games instead of crappy games which seem to be produced by the thousands a day or so. There are so many good 16bits games that really need a way to be able to be run again on a 64bits system 64 bits win7 i have so i cant install it. I have the original Mech Commander on retail cd but 16bit games wont run on that. Once you've scaled that barrier however, weeks and weeks of incredible madness awaits.

NH and DF are two of the most unexpectedly awesome games I've ever played, but both do require a solid day or so of pulling your hair out though, just to figure out how to play, especially DF.

Matewis: I'm not sure how to find out for sure, but I'm under the impression that both Mechcommander Gold and Battlezone 1 are free these days:Īpart from that I also recently tried out and Dwarf Fortress, each of which recently received a massive update.

A better option might be Eath 2150 which has some similarities.Īpart from that I also recently tried out and Dwarf Fortress, each of which recently received a massive update. Is free and a pretty fun RTS, but the quirky pathfinding and suicidal unit behaviour made the game a bit unbearable for me after a while. I'm not sure how to find out for sure, but I'm under the impression that both Mechcommander Gold and Battlezone 1 are free these days:īoth are absolutely excellent, and both work flawlessly on modern systems (well at least on a 64 bit win 7 system)Īnother game's freeware statues I'm also not sure about is Abuse.
